ok great.
I installed the RX today.
i’m running 11-32 for now. Saw a hug gap between the 32 and derialleur when screwing in the B screw. 40 wont be a problem i guess

Speaking of that..

To those who went from 2x to 1x, do you miss having the closer gears? I'm Contemplating going 11-42 (or potentially bigger) with a roadlink. Just wanted to see how you guys felt after the shift.

I came from mtb. Big gap between gears it's not a problem for me 🙂 And I really hate front derailleur.

Been following this forum for a while now, but this is my first post. I've had my 696 for about 5 months and am loving it. I'll have to post a photo soon. It's mainly Force 1 and in the controls dept. I have a Redshift stem and Ritchey Venturemax bars. Really happy with the setup. Wheels are some Chinese carbons 23mm internal, and I've gone though a lot of different tires but settled on WTB Resolutes. Still wear too quickly for my liking, but they roll great.

I don't really have any problems at all with the frame but a couple of minor 'observations'. Overall I find it super-comfy; especially in the back end. I do notice however that I get a bit of rear wheel drift or some might call it vagueness. I've tried loads of different tires and pressures plus different saddle positions. Don't know if I'm feeling a lack of stiffness or if in fact it's too stiff. It doesn't bother me that much but it's something I've only ever felt with light steel frames in the past. Anyone else feel this on their 696?

Secondly, I get so much water into the frame. The BB cover doesn't fit properly so I'm always drying it out. Bit of tape will probably fix that.

Like others have mentioned, I went through a few sets of thru-axels from Carbonda until I got the right length! Overall happy with their service though.

Thanks to everyone posing - have learned a lot form here.

Small update from my side:
received the frame last week.
paintjob looks normal in low light conditions.
When the sun hits the frame it's all powerpuff girls shine!

installed the carbonda headset, having the same gapp issue as noted before in this topic. tried to solve it by milling a part of the surface of the cover.

taking the bike to the lbs this week to cut the steerer tube and connect the hydraulics.

HI SmoenS, was wondering how happy you were with that stem? I was thinking about ordering one.

Hi, works just fine, and looks pretty good!

update on the bike:

trying to get the Ramblers tubeless on my fulcrum 7 wheels ..... (schwalbe doc blue couldn't fix a tiny puncture, changed it for Stan's, puncture is closed now but still loosing some pressure somewhere)

I'm running Shimano R8070 calipers with 140mm rotors, but thinking about moving to 160mm. For those of you running 160mm rotors on a 696, what adaptor did you use to position the caliper in the correct position?

I might be joining the club. What headset type does the CFR696 use? I am looking at putting a cane creek 40 in it. Would an IS41/IS52 tapered work?

Man, your paint job makes me want to order another and completely replace/sell my foundry Harrow.

So I wanted to see if any one else was experiencing this./

People have talked about the carbonda headset being a item with a very short lifespan.

Personally I've never worn a headset down to the point where there was a good amount of play

I was going down the trail the other day and it felt like there may have been some play somewhere along the front. It kept feeling like something was moving as if there was space between the stem/spacers etc..

but when i stopped and checked to see, i could not verify any play/movement. I almost think something is moving horizontally rather than vertically. But even then i couldn't get it to move by hand.. but it feels like there's play when i'm riding bumpy terrain.

I am new to the forum, have just ordered Carbonda CFR696 56 size (BSA), through Adam. He said will be ready in a week, and 2 weeks for shipping. Based on the forum I can multiply it by two, but that's ok, I still need some time to get missing components.

Price is more or less the same that were posted by others in the thread:
  • 480 USD for frame, fork, seatpost and clamp with matte black finish
  • 12 USD for headset
  • 26 USD for F&R axles
  • 85 USD for the shipping cost via EMS express to Quebec, Canada
  • 27 USD 4.5% Paypal transaction fee
I am also planning to use 2x11 setup with either RD RX800 or RD RX810 from new GRX groupset and compact crankset in front. However, I noticed that RX810/RX812 is not listed as compatible for 2x11 setup with Deore XT 11-40t cassette which I already have. Assuming that shimano is somewhat conservative in their gear ranges and that there are also some success stories with  XT 10-40t + Ultegra RD setup I hope it will work 🙂

Hi, also new to the forum/thread. After reading this long thread, I will pull the trigger soon to a CFR696 but for a 2x11 setup (ultegra R8020 crankset), is there any problem with this following setup:
- 46x36
- 50x34
- 52x36 and 52x39

Will use the bike 70% of the time on the road with a 50x39 setup and later 52x39 for racing but will spend 30% off road with gravel races and cyclocross with smaller setup like 50x34 or even 46x36.

Also I saw the gap/misalignement with the headset/top tube, is it related to the carbonda headset or the frame? meaning is it better to buy a brand name aheadset, and what is the size for the headset?

Thanks

Based on recommendations I have ordered Cane Creek IS42/IS52 headset and DEDA steer tube extender/plug 70mm. However, I can only check if it really works in a month or so.
btw, what casette you want to put 11-34t?

2 days after getting the fulcrums tubeless, i broke another spoke (nr 3).
So i will send them back to the supplier and bought hunt 4 season gravel wheels instead.

I think it is indeed related to the carbonda headset. Talked about this with Adam, and he said the headset cover would have been updated by the time my frame was ready for shipping, but after receiving and installing it, i still had a gap...

so i milled mine a bit to get a tighter fit.

While the wheels are strong the rear hub is complete junk on that wheelset. I'm on my second rear wheel and I really wish I bought another wheelset. I was dumb and I didn't take advantage of the 60 day ride and return policy. The customer support is really good tho.

They told me they're gonna update the hubs on the wheelset and I see they use another hub on the "X-wide" version. If you bought the "regular" version with 20mm inner width rims, i'd think hard about cancelling my order.

Just don't tell on me that i've said bad things! ðŸ˜„

I highly doubt the hubs have been updated since the product photos and the specs are the same. But it's worth an ask.

Thanks for the the headset but on the carbonda site the specs are 1-1/8"  -  1-1/2". I will probably put a 11-32t with 50/52x39 for road use and 46x36 for cross/gravel

I've just got an update from Adam, he has sent the frame I ordered this Monday, that was fast, hope it will arrive quickly and in a good shape.

Based on S.H.I.S poster from Cane Creek IS42/IS52 matches those dimensions.

Received my 696 frame yesterday. It took 9 days from shipped to my doorstep in Virginia. To the eye it looks to be quality frame and paint. I should have it built up by this weekend. I will be sure to post up my final build weight, size and ride comments.

Couple pictures of how the paint turned out...
