New in 2017 is the Wyoming Gravel Grinder Series.  The series is a group of 5 different gravel races around the state.  Each race has different clubs hosting which make them all totally unique.  These races are all amazing destinations!  Make a vacation out of it and explore the parts of Wyoming that all the Yellowstone Park tourists just pass by.  From prairie to the high mountains and everything in-between.  Expect to see more antelope than you could ever imagine along the race courses.

Do you love history?  Each of these host cities boasts extensive historical significance.  Westward expansion made Wyoming home to the over 400,000 travelers along the Oregon Trail (Even if it was just for a month).   While you are riding your bike 40 or even 130 miles in just a single day, emmigrants passing through this territory in the 1840's would be able to travel just ~12 miles in a single day.  Almost every one of them on foot!

The series will have 5 events and our scoring can be viewed on the website, http://www.wyominggravel.com.   Your best 3 scores in the series will be tallied for your overall.  We have some amazing sponsors who helped make the series possible and provide CASH MONEY to the top 3 men and top 3 women in the series (Long distance racers only, sorry).  $500 for first, $300 for second and $150 for third.  This cash money will be paid out to the overall series winners at the last series race in Lander in September.  If you already locked up the series win ahead of time and cannot attend the Lander race, then we will mail out the check.

Our individual race winners might also receive some awesome swag from the series sponsors for crushing gravel.  This includes bike packing gear from Dirt Bags,  tasty drinks from Big Lost Meadery and Blacktooth Brewing company.

More detail of each individual race will be posted soon.

Here is a link to the long course of race number one in the Wyoming Gravel Grinder Series... The Rattlesnake Rally!  At just 3,000 foot of vertical gain, this is one of the easier grinders you will do in Wyoming.  It features long and gradual climbs where you just dig down and forget about them halfway though.

A few images from the 2017 RRGG.  The first pic is of the original route with aid station locations.  due to a major dump of snow two days prior to the event, we had to change up the route and ended up doing a 44 mile short course option and 70 mile long course option.  The event was a huge success and the gravel was mostly dry except for a few miles that were rode up the mountain as high as bikes could get.  Toward the top of the hill, water was rushing down the rutted road and our tires disappeared in the slop.  It was pretty awesome

Photos below of the 2017 Wyo131 race in Lander, WY.  The weather was beautiful in September and Laramie local, John Hennnings won the inaugural event.  Call the Gannet Peak Sports bike shop in Lander for any details about this event.  The 2018 date is set for September 8th.

Whoa, it pays to have a professional photographer at your race!  Here are some images from the 2017 Dead Swede 100/40 in Sheridan, WY.  Over 140 participants and street dance afterward on their inaugural year.... Need we say more?   Plans to do a 20 mile family route for 2018.

We're looking at doing the Rattlesnake Rally as a warm-up to the DK200.  It looks like fun.

What are the odds of the Centennial ride happening again this year?

Unfortunately the Centennial ride didn't happen last year.  Those guys in Laramie host a bunch of stuff and decided that they didn't want to spread themselves too thin by adding another event to their pile.

It's looking like Jackson, WY may be the 4th event in the WGGS and then we will do a casual grinder in August in Ten Sleep.

That would be awesome!  We'd love to have you.  Earlybird registration is open now and is just 60 bucks until the end of January.  Then it goes up to $70 Feb 1st.  You'll get the classic t shirt, sticker, food and drink.  There is a lot happening in Casper that weekend (high school state track, outdoor expo, brew festival, MSwalk, etc) so check out hotels now if you can.  Otherwise there is camping in town and outside of town a few miles from the start of the race.

Thanks for the heads-up.  We got rooms in Casper for the weekend.  There should be 4 of us from Castle Rock ready to have some fun!

If the Dead Swede wasn’t the same day as DK I would be all over it! I love to see gravel getting some love in my hometown.

Hey what is the situation with the Dead Swede course and snowpack? I know you guys had to reroute last year. Really want to come down and do it this year.

Hey El Train.  They just made some updates to their website with updated course for the 100 miler.  http://thedeadswede.com/lodging-transportation

There is plenty of snow in the Bighorns again this year, so we just never know what will happen.  I'm hoping there won't be a reroute as well!

It's official, the Wyoming Gravel Grinder Series http://www.wyominggravel.com has secured it's 5th event in the series.  August 25th in Savery, Wyoming!

BATTLE OF THE GRAVEL!!

This first year event is going to be sick.  First of all, nobody's every heard of Savery, so I better tell you where that is.  It's south of Rawlings, right on the Colorado Border.  From Colorado, you can drive straight north of Steamboat Springs to get there.

The race is on 100% gravel road with 21/58/95 mile options.  Savery has a town population of less than 30 (THIRTY) people.  Live music, BBQ, great aid stations and an epic course will make this race truly unique.

This event is number 4 in the Wyoming Gravel Grinder Series.
