Any day riding is a good day.  But, there are great days in the saddle and then there are days like today.  Being pretty new to the gravel scene I am still trying to find some rides fairly close to home.  For the past couple of months I've been looking at an area not too far from here that looked promising when checking it out via Google Earth and Gravelmap. Finally had a chance to get down there.  Not far into the ride I knew this was just not going to work.

I knew going in that it was not gravel but was going to be more dirt...but it was actually sand.  Pretty loose sand at that...it just was going to work.  I did manage to get off the "main roads" onto some side paths and church out a little over 6 miles, but I also did a lot of walking.  There were some fairly short sections that were enjoyable...but they did not last.

So, while I''m disappointed, I now know to take this off my list.  And next time I have most of a day to ride, I'll head the opposite direction to try another new area!  Exploring and poking around is part of the fun!!!

Some times you just need a different bike or tires. I find these all the time. This week it was simply a road that was just re-graded. The mud was about 4" deep. Too much for me and my 35 mm Bon Jon's. Like you say, it's all part of the experience.
