Do a fair bit of ridding North and East of Des Moines on the weekends.

Have been wanting to look into a route that leads from Des Moines and follows south of I-80 to the east for a nice trek to change things up a bit, please PM if you have any advice on routes.

I'm a part-time delegate of the Iowa Representation, and I love it.

They say, well, I say, anyway, that the best thing about being a cyclist in Omaha is Iowa.

Sure, Nebraska has some hills. If you don't believe me, come on out to Gravel Worlds, Odin's Revenge, or the Omaha Jackrabbit. But to train for all of those events, spend some time in the Loess Hills that run along the southwestern part of Iowa. You won't be disappointed.

If you're ever in the Iowa Great Lakes area, look me up for some routes, or hook me up with your own. While it's relatively flat up that way around the Minnesota border, there are some spectacular lake views and prairie vistas.

There's a movie quote that couldn't be truer: Is this heaven? No. It's Iowa.

Regards,

Scott

Just joined the site. Been riding central Iowa gravel since the 80's. Main interest is SS XC & fat biking. Hate pavement & ride a lot of gravel in Story, Boone, & Polk counties. Live in Huxley.

Villisca Iowa here. I generally ride alone and prefer it that way but it gets old too. I got one friend in Omaha I ride with from time to time and I know Scott Redd above as well. I could use more riding buddies...

Cory, right? I've seen your SWIG posts on Facebook. I'm in Des Moines but grew up in SW Iowa so would enjoy taking a spin down memory lande... I think SWIG landed on my family's vacation week this year so was unable to make it.

I ride mostly South and West of Des Moines, and it is super hilly! Gents Race is up NE of the city, and that's probably the only flat gravel ride I do each year. Of course the lack of hills brings extra wind, so it's no picnic up there either.

Yeah Cory. what’s your name? I have a new blog post now. You can check it out the link on my signature. I shut my Facebook down a week ago so all the pages I had went with including the swig tour page. I’m trying to build followers back up again because I think there was a fair number of people following that page. Hit me up sometime if you ever want to do some gravel riding. I don’t have a lot of people to ride with down in this area

Alan Eshelman here; originally from College Springs (South Page schools), and my parents taught in Clarinda; also had lots of family in the Griswold/Elliott/Red Oak area.

Saw your SWIG blog, looks good! Sounds like I missed an interesting route.

That's too bad about shutting down your FB. Most of the people I ride with use FB and Messenger to coordinate, and I find a lot of bike events via that platform. Not sure if you need more exposure for SWIG, but BikeIowa.com has an events section you might want to make use of; that site gets a good amount of users.

I don't ride outside of the Des Moines area much, but will make contact if I do end up in your area. Feel free to do the same if you come to the center of the state for a ride!

Yeah I will be posting on bike Iowa like I did last year. I’m just being patient and not trying to get too carried away yet as it’s only November LOL.
