Any input on Giro VR90 MTB Shoe sizing vs Specialized.  I typically wear a size 12 shoe, but it varies by brand.  In Specialized MTB shoes, I wear a 46.  Should I size up to 46.5 for the Giro VR90 MTB shoes?

I've never worn specialized shoes but Giros are super skinny and I can't fit into them.  Pearl Izumis are the only shoes that fit my feet without going to wide sizes.

Also I recently got some $350 Pearls from Amazon for 173.  I added it to my wish list and just watched the price drop.

I'll second the fact that Giro mtb shoes tend to run a tad small.

Giro has HV (high volume) if the regular are too small. Personally, my favorite have been these: http://www.giro.com/us_en/products/clearance/men-s/shoes/code-vr70-hv-18.html . On my third year with them and bought another pair for the future. Might pick up another for beyond that because it looks like they're going bye bye and I'm not a huge fan of laces.

I'm not sure on which last Giro uses for the VR90's, but I have the VR70's (bought just over a year ago) and Specialized (forget which model and they are a few years older)both in Size 46. The Giro's are a tad narrower. I use the Giro's as my summer shoes with regular cycling socks and the Specialized's as my winter shoe (Tennessee not Saskatchewan so that is a relative term) with thicker wool socks and toe chemical warmers. When I tried the thicker socks with the Giro's they were too tight for long rides and the reduced blood circulation in the shoes negated impacts of the 'warmer' socks and chem warmers.

If you are happy with the sizing of your Specialized, you might want to try the 46.5's in the Giro. I found that my old 45.5 Specialized's were too small, but the 46's are big enough for thick socks and the 46 Giro's fit awesome with the summer socks. I'm looking at getting a pair of the Techlace in 46.5 as my "winter" shoe (since I LOVE my Techlace road shoe) to replace finally retire my Specialized.
