I am considering driving a long way and doing this ride but have no idea what the road conditions are like.  I've done several gravel rides/races in North Texas and our gravel roads consist of crushed limestone with angular rock sizes ranging from pebbles to palm-sized.  Combined with the crushed portion of the limestone the road conditions can be packed nice and tight, sortof loose out of the traffic line, and really loose if it's fresh.  This tends to make a 40 mile ride feel more like 60.

What kind of road conditions can a rider expect for the Folsom ride?

What advice would you give a first timer?
