I was thinking about having two wheelsets with my next bike (1x):

1. 27.5 wheelset for mtb tires
2. 700c wheelset for gravel tires

The 27.5 set will have an 10-42 cassette with an xd driver.

The 700c set will have an 11-36 cassette with a standard SRAM/Shimano road driver.


Will the cassettes be located in the same place in space, or will I have to adjust the derailleur with the wheel swap?


All other things being equal in my perfect world...

Chances are a small adjustment would be needed; a tweak on the high/low limit, maybe the B-screw, and possibly the cable tension.  All that should only take a few minutes in the work stand.
The bigger pain will be adjusting/shimming the rotors and calipers, although it's still not that bad.  If you care to set it up, you can add shims to one set to make that transition easier.  Personally I haven't tried shimming any rotors yet, but it seems to be pretty commonplace.

So in a perfect world, with identical hubs, minimal adjustment will be needed.

I have two wheelsets for one of my bikes with identical hubs and they require no adjustment.

I don't have any experience with swapping between XD and SRAM/Shimano drivers, although in theory 11-speed spacing is all the same across campy/sram/shimano. (I'm actually running a Campy RD with a SRAM chain on a Shimano cassette, fwiw).
