I checked and every hotel/motel seems to be totally booked for 2019.  What do those of us without rooms do?
If you plan on giving up a room or two please message me!!!

I haven't done the ride but why not do the dorms  option which I heard is cheaper.

I think you just sign up for that when you enter the lottery.

Keep checking on the hotels, it seems like we weren't able to reserve rooms until later in the summer.  We stayed at the Candlewood Suites this year and tried to reserve for 2019 on the day we checked out and were told to try again in about 60 days.

In 2018 I originally booked a dorm room during registration, because all of the area hotels were full. Every month, or so, I would check the hotels for openings. Three weeks before the event I found a room at the Holiday Inn Express. I suspect people’s plans change, and random openings appear closer to the ride date.

Since there is a discussion here at hotels and looking to maybe doing this in the future. What are most people paying a night for a hotel room during this ride?

Thanks

Within Emporia, the prices probably range from $250-$350 per night during DK weekend. Some may be paying less. I also talked with several people that rented rooms via AirBnB, but don’t know the prices.

For two nights at a hotel and a 200 entry expect to pay around $700 + or - . Then add your travel, food, etc. My cost for this year was around $850 for travel(Kansas), 200 entry with transfer fee, two nights hotel and food.

As an update, we called the Candlewood Suites this morning and were able to get rooms at $99/night for 2019 (assuming we get into DK). Trying to reserve online showed no rooms available.

If Lifetime Fitness buys out DK I expect the limit on riders to increase.  If that happens there will be even more demand for lodging which will cause whatever rooms remain, or come available, to increase in cost.  I've stayed in the Super 8 in 2017 and the Roadway Inn and Suites in 2018 and I got rooms for under $100/night at both.  Both allowed a cancellations in case I didn't make the cut.

DK isn't an inexpensive event.  Traveling from Michigan I've spent around $1,000.00 each year, after it was all said and done.  Having done it now twice I'm on the bubble whether I want to pay that much to do it again.  It's not a good value at all, but neither are many other events.  Since a route change might be in the works and more entries allowed I'm going to wait and see what shakes out.
