I'm starting this thread for first time Dirty Kanza racers with questions and for seasoned veterans with wisdom the share. 

Given the forecast, my advice is to hydrate.

I noticed that the Garmin says 4692 elevation gain and the ride with GPS says 8331, anyone else notice this? I am thinking the 8331 is more likely and I should load that route?

It's always different depending on which mapping program is used. It's also usually different than the actual elevation readings you get on course. This is basically the same course as the last two years, so between 8000-10000 feet of climbing depending on whose computer you're looking at.
