Hi All,

I bought a set of Crank Brothers Mallet 3 pedals an tried them for the first time today. I had an awful time with them. Very difficult to clip in and really hard to clip out. I almost crashed just pedaling around the neighborhood. I literally have to fight to get them to unclip. I'm using the cleats that came with them and they're installed correctly, although I didn't use the shim. Any chance using the shim will help? Anyone else have CB Mallets?

I love Crank Bros. I have Mallets, Candies and Egg Beaters. Have never had issues. I would put the shoe on the mallet and get close to it a watch and see if you have clearance issues when it pivots. Good riding.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. My cleats are recessed, so maybe that's an issue.

I added the included shims and it fixed the problem. Now they're easier to clip in and out. Should have figured that out when I needed to put so much pressure on them to get them to clip in. Live and learn.

Are you aware that you don't just push down and lift up to engage/disengage?  You are supposed to twist.  Also, depending on the way you install the cleat it takes more or less twist to disengage.

Yes, I know how to clip in and out. And I have the cleats set favor easier clip-out on my left foot. Like I said, the issue was the shim. Haven't had a problem since I added that to the cleats.
