@GoFaster, sorry to read your story.

I've had issues importing carbon parts too.
For me, friends and family.
All in all, we saved a ton of money in the process.

If you read from the start this forum(and other direct-from-china), the probability you get a lemon again is very low.
Leave the clouds, buy direct from China again, and save money to buy better equipments, toys for your kids or invite your partner to diner and be happy [wink]

@GoFaster. Do you have the fork back? Have you tried contacting Adam?

It might be possible to get new threads cut to fix the problem.

Yes, I contacted Adam just yesterday, so I will wait a few days and see if he replies...

Do you have the fork back? No I don't have the fork back and this makes me even more angry. I mean I have paid the fork thus they could at least send it back to me so I could figure out whether I could fix the threads! But as I said they have ignored my e-mails until now and hope that Adam or Hedylee, who once was active in this forum, give me a response. Otherwise, I see no chance of getting at least my fork back!

I ordered my 696 on 11/17 and it has yet to ship. Going on 24 days. I didn't get a custom paint scheme either. The only thing I had added was mounting braze-on's on the fork and a 27.5+ boost fork for my mountain bike. Adam told me last week that it would be done in 3 days, but I have yet to here back. Then it still needs to be shipped. I'm guessing another 2 weeks for shipment. I've ordered from China before and the wait is frustrating, but communication is the key. Keep me up to date and I'm happy. Every one sentence update I've received was after I asked for an update. Sorry for the rant guys!

Update on my 505 build.  Purchased the frame in around June of 2018 -- shipped to Western Canada and received it in roughly 10 days (no additional duties or taxes fortunately).

I built it up using a Shimano 105-5800 groupset with Hydraulic brakes, Carbonda's axles, Alex Volar 2.3 tubeless wheelset and an FSA bar.  I swapped to the Shimano HG-800 11-34 cassette as it will fit these MTB wheels/hubs.

I now have roughly 1500kms on the bike and so far I can report its held up very well.  I am a bit of a Clydesdale coming in at about 220lbs (100kg) so tend to be rough on wheels in particular.  Bike has had almost no issues (other than minor tuning) with a mix of urban commuting, longer road rides and it's fair share of gravel riding.

With winter weather coming, I swapped my 30mm Donnelly CDG tires to a 40mm Donnelly MSO (run both sets tubeless).  Big difference between the two tire sets.  The CDG provide better cornering control on the roads (the MSO feel squirrelly) but the MSO's provide much better traction offroad, along with greater contact on slippery roads.

Here's a photo from a ride this past weekend.  First ride with the MSO tires.  I've also added a set of front/rear Magnic lights (2nd generation from the Kickstarter campaign a few years back - lights are a frictionless dynamo that run off a magnetic eddy current), plus a high-power 900 lumen rechargable for nigh-assaults.  Also had to swap in a comfy seat as I bruised my tailbone on the MTB a few weekends back so needed the relief from a rock hard saddle.

I got a chance on Saturday to go on the first real (30mi) ride with the 696. I have to say, I'm quite pleased. Tires are 700x32 Panaracer Gravel Kings. Wheelset is Mavic Open UST rims on Shimano RS770 hubs. Groupset is Shimano R7020.

The whole thing is remarkably smooth, quiet and comfortable. My other bike is a Seven Axion with whatever Ultegra 11 speed (whatever the first gen was), rim brakes, Ksyrium Elite wheels and Michelin 700x25 tires and it's not even close. The 696 is like a Mercedes S Class by comparison.

Hi,
this is my order status at today (17 December)
- I pay Adam for my order on 19 of October
- The tracking start at 1st of November
- At 12 of November the parcel arrive in Frankfurt and never go further

Since I paid Adam, 60 days have passed.
I write to Adam, XDB ad UPS for an update. Only USP, replay to me immediately, saying that they had never received the parcel, only the order of shipment.

After some days also Adam write me back, and my tracking, under the voice "details", start saying:
"We've begun an investigation to locate you package".

10 days have passed since the investigation started, no results.
Last week, Adam said to me that he will sent another frameset.
At today, no "old" frame on my doorstep and no tracking number fro the "new frame"

This is the worst expedition (XDB) I have ever had from China, and I ordered a lot of bike components in the last years from China.

I really hope that all this will end in the best way...

XDB has some undeniable advantages over the more reliable EMS [wink], but with some risks... Carbonda is not really responsible of our shipment choices.
I once waited 3 months for an XDB package to go through their opaque jumps between countries. But it arrived safely.

I know the undeniable advantages of XBD over the more reliable EMS [wink]. I used it several times, and it worked fine (max 1 month for the shipping), except this time.
I know that with XDB I have to wait, but this time they also don't know where my parcel is, since one month.
XDB and also UPS, wrote me that I have to contact the seller for an update on my shipping, and Adam said me that usually the shipping takes max 45 days.
Yesterday Adam gave me an update. He had arranged another frame set for me, but it need some more days to finish it. He will send it to me ASAP...

Ordered 11/1... Built and shipped on 12/18!!! Yeah!  Fingers crossed for a quick shipment but in reality it will not matter as riding season for me is at least 3 months out.

Custom Paint to show some bare carbon and a color to mimic the old Group C Leyton House Porsche 962.  No chain stay bridge and not extra bottle mounts.  Will be a mix of Sram cranks and Ulltegra parts.  Largely an "ebay" build after the frame.

For those building a CFR696, I cannot recommend the AbsoluteBlack Chainrings, since they move the chainline inward by 3mm, and this only leaves about 4mm clearance between the chainstay and the outer chainring. I was running the 32/48T Oval chainrings. You can see my clarance photos in a previous post 1246

Last week I moved to Easton 32/47 Chainrings, and now have a healthy 7mm clearance between the chainstay and the chainring.

IMG_7120.jpg
I also now have good clearance below the chainstay. With the 32T oval chainring the chain was running against the underside of the chainstay in 32x11 or 32x12. Clearance is now a minimum of 10mm in 32x11 with the Ultegra RX derailleur:

Well I finally received my 696 frameset. It surprisingly too less then a week to receive.

Now I ran into a little issue with the upper headset bearing. It doesn't sit flush in the frame. It sticks out enough to keep dust cap from sealing against the frame. I searched and found a few posts mentioning this same problem. Anyone figure out a solution or a compatible headset? I've ordered a Cane Creek 40 headset , but also came across a post where the CC 40 was not sitting flush either.

Another problem I ran into was my post mount TRP Spryes with Trp flat mount adapters. The rear adapter hits the frame and can not be installed. Looks like I have to get some flat mount Spyres.

That is a great weight with the Road Plus tyres.

You cannot buy a 8.3kg gravel bike with road plus tyres from any of the big brands. Only a high end custom build will get down to 8.3kg.

Is there a general consensus on the 'real world' max tire width on the 696? I'm looking for a larger volume tire for some bikepacking, that will still allow some mud clearance. Thinking WTB Riddlers in 45 (700c). Anyone using them or can suggest others? Thank you very much.

Awaiting a new 700c wheels (dt 350 + dt revo + chinese carbon rims). With 38c 320 g tyres (tubeless) expected weight - less than 7,8 kg 😉 With pedals, bottle cage and garmin holder.

Same boat as you, I would like to see the clearance on a 29 x 2.0 ikon or a g-one bite 2.0, I'll know hopefully soon once my frame ships.

Update to my last post:

I received my Cane Creek 40 headset in the mail today. The upper bearing was about 1mm shorter then the headset that came with the frame. Now the dust cap fits flush with the frame perfect. One thing I will note...The crown race was a bear to get on. I had to sand a bit off around the crown race lip and then it still took a lot of banging to get the crown race to seat.

  IMG_20181222_145248.jpg

Here's a pic right before installing the crankset and chain. Now just waiting on my new brakes to finish her up.

Halfbax57, looks nice [smile] weight?

My tracking still the same. I wrote to Adam for an update but he didn't replay to me since Monday (17 December).

The last update I have is this:
Adam had arranged another frame set for me, but it needs some more days to finish it. He will send it to me ASAP.

I asked him to use DPD for shipping the frame this time, but he never replied to my email...

I also wrote him: I will wait until Christmas, after that if I will not have a tracking number for the "new" frame, or any news about the "old" one (paid on 19 October) I will request for a refund on PayPal.
