New to the discipline but planning three rides beginning 2015: day-rides for January and February; and an overnight ride (staying at a PA State Park cabin) in March. January and February likely will occur at Michaux State Forest, about 75 minutes from Baltimore. Undecided on where to go for the March oversight trip, through possibly Pine Grove.

Reviving an old post...

Does anyone know of any gravel options local to the baltimore area? I've come across some rides and races that are fairly nearby, but it would be nice to have something even closer. Perhaps there's just a lack of terrain in the area, but if anyone knows of any cool routes, rides, or races based in/near baltimore, I'd love to hear about them.

Or, if someone has a killer route in the area and is interested in turning it into a semi-organized event, I'd be willing to pitch in...

The Torrey Brown trail in Hunt Valley is a nice ride.  Its crushed limestone, so not true gravel.  But out and back you can ride around 85 miles.  And you get to ride by Gnome land.

A local ride is off the BWI trail.  You ride several miles on mixed gravel and single track.  Been riding this area for years.  The route does involve some Amtrak siding riding.  The gate is at the bottom of the 195 bridge in the wooded area before the wooden bridge near the BWI Amtrak station.

Not in Baltimore but I'm about 2 hours away in WV and we try to ride through the winter. But no organized rides that I'm aware of. We just get together and ride.
