Hello,

Looking for recommendations on 650b rims.  They will be used as backups for my regular set up (WTB ci24s).  I'm on the small and nimble side (135lbs).  They likely will see a bit of road, but mainly they will be used to to hold larger, knobbier tires for non-event, non-bigger days in the saddle.  I am generally very easy on rims and my terrain is as well (smoother dirt, jeep trails in Western Ma/Southern VT).  However, I like to climb. And I like stiff wheels.

So... what are you all running? Why?

Thank you

Recently had a 650b wheelset built up using DT Swiss XR331 (20mm internal) rims.

The welded-joint rims are fairly light, have a good max tire inflation number (depending on the tire size, of course), and have built up very stiff. CX-Ray and Novatec 771/772 hubs.

I'm around 135lbs.

Like you, I had them built up for running 47mm - 2.1" tires; all-day rides.

Could have gone with the new XR361 as an option also, which are a couple of mm wider internally.

Will also be getting a 700c wheelset built up, using either.

The WeightWeenies forum has some brief comments on building with the XR331.

Thank you both for the recommendations.

Owly, How many miles have you put on the XRs? What's the tubeless set up like? Which tires have you successfully tubelesed' with them?

Babylou, I love Nox but not sure I justify two carbon 650b road set ups [wink].  But wouldn't mind trying.

JS.

I had WTB KOM's at one point.

Had Stans Crest, but these were too light for me.

Currently have Pacenti CL25.  All these are pretty light, relatively speaking.

Only recently started running them, due to a new build. Can't yet comment on tubeless, as I'm experimenting/trying out three different tires on the surfaces I ride:- Compass Switchback Hill Extralight, Terrene Ellwood Light, and Innova Cobra Skin Superlight. Probably going to get the Schwalbe ThunderBurt Liteskin also.

Once I've settled on which to run for the time being, I'll set them up tubeless.
